Freebies, discounts, and ways to save money in September

It's always good to stay on the lookout for ways to save money. The more you save, the more you can put towards the more important things. We've compiled a list of the top deals, freebies, and discounts happening this month:

Free food


September 12th: National Chocolate Milkshake Day

Many chain restaurants like Dairy Queen, McDonald's, Sonic, and Wendy’s have offered deals or free milkshakes on this day in the past. Check the store by you to see if they are running the offer.

September 29th: National Coffee Day

Last year, Dunkin’ Donuts offered a buy-one-get-one free, while Krispy Kreme and Barnes & Noble cafes gave away small cups entirely free. All are likely to run similar promotions again. Check on company websites for current offers or celebrate on your own by stopping by a local shop!

Free Photography Lessons

Availability Dates: September 1st- 13th, 2019

Join Pic Tours Alaska and Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd. for 15-minute tutorials on using a camera to capture the beauty of Alaska. Lessons will take place at Old City Hall Park.

Free Museum Day

Availability Date: September 21st, 2019

This annual celebration allows anyone interested to receive free admission to the many participating museums across the country. There are some in Alaska participating, including the Talkeeta Historical Society & Museum and the Sheldon Jackson Museum, but visit the Smithsonian Magazine website for a full list and to secure your tickets.

Free National Park Day

Availability Date: September 28th, 2019

Entry into the incredible natural landscapes of America’s national parks is totally free this month. There are many parks across Alaska you could visit and take advantage of this day with, most notably Denali National Park and Preserve. You could also visit the Kenai Fjords National Park or Lake Clark National Park and Preserve for something a little closer. Check the National Park Service website to find all the parks and locate the nearest one to you.

Free Country Two Step Dance Lessons

Availability Dates: Select Tuesdays

The Last Frontier Bar hosts free “Two Step on Tuesdays” dance lessons on select dates this month. Lessons are free to participate and include all skill levels.

Kid’s Closet Connection First Responder & Military Presale Event

Military, teachers, first responders, and their spouses are now eligible to shop at a discounted rate before the Fairbanks based store opens to the public. From 2-8 pm on September 4th, those eligible can shop thousands of mildly used children’s items. They can also shop 50% off sales on September 6th from 6-8pm.
